Fight your allergies with dirt and dust?!!

British researchers from Royal Free and University College Medical School in London found that asthma, hay fever and eczema could be on the rise because we are getting too carried away with cleanliness and not challenging our immune systems sufficiently. So when our grandmother’s used to tell us, “oh, a little dirt never hurt anybody,” they could have been right. I remember my mom saying, "God made dirt, and dirt doesn't hurt." She, too, could be right!

Allergies due to antibiotics?

The research report appeared in the August issue of Biologist and noted that adults who had been given antibiotics in their childhood were more apt to suffer allergic reactions as adults. Those LESS likely to be allergic would be those that:

  • Had older siblings, especially brothers
  • Rarely washed their hands or face as a child
  • Lived in a home with bacteria-laden dust
  • Were brought up on a farm with animals
  • Had a dog
  • Had a childhood infection that was transmitted by fecal to oral contamination
  • Grew up in a Communist country, rather than Western countries or Europe.

Immune systems need challenges to develop discernment

The report went on to say that immune system, much like the brain, learns as it grows. If it isn’t given common challenges from everyday bacteria, it could react to harmless substances, like pet dander, as a threat.

May need to balance medicine and nutrition

While this may seem startling to some, it is not a new idea. In 1989 it was first proposed and dubbed “The Hygiene Hypothesis.” Dr. Graham Rook and Laura Rosa Brunet, authors of the current study, say the rise of diabetes, multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel diseases may be related to cleaning obsessively, using antibiotics and taking vaccinations.

In essence, all of those actions may serve to rob the immune system of a chance to learn to respond constructively. Although they are not advocating doing away with modern advances, they did come to their conclusions after reviewing over a dozen past studies. "Hygiene, antibiotics and vaccines are the most valuable creations of medicine. They save millions of lives," Rook says. "However, we also need to identify the environmental microorganisms that drive maturation of the immunoregulatory circuits, so that they can be put back into our environments as additional vaccines or food supplements."

Reduce or eliminate your allergies with food supplements

In my own nutrition practice, I find that some supplements, like Transfer Factor and others that I carry in my office, help the body cope with and reduce the effects of allergies. I also offer Springlife polarizers that have been reported to help many allergy sufferers. These supplements have consistently helped thousands of people since 1929.

If you would like individual health evaluation or other recommendations to see if your body needs any of these and how many, please contact me for a health evaluation. I offer four different ones and two can be done from anywhere you are, you do not have to be there in person.
