PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) is designed to enhance immune function and maintain optimal health.* PectaSol® MCP has been clinically demonstrated to slow PSA doubling time in prostate cells.* It is known to promote normal cell growth by interfeing with the binding properties of galectin proteins by preventing them from adhering to each other and the inner wall of blood vessels.* PectaSol® MCP is a complex polysaccharide (long-chain carbohydrate) obtained from the peel and pulp of citrus fruits and valued for its galactosyl component. It is modified to produce a shorter chain, low esterification pectin molecule which is more easily abosrbed into the bloodstream. MCP Benefits and characteristics
PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP)is produced by a patented manufacturing process that creates a shorter molecular chain of low esterification. This allows better absorption and utilization of the crucial polysaccharide compounds of MCP. Whereas, ordinary citrus pectin is not as bioavailable and effective in the bloodstream because of its long molecular chain.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Regarding PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin
Question If someone is taking PectaSol just as a preventive measure is it possible to be getting too much potassium?
Answer Modified citrus pectin is naturally associated with some type of mineral (sodium, potassium, calcium, etc.) and will not be found without it's associated mineral. (Chemically, MCP has a negative charge and needs a positively charged ion to balance it.) We have carefully selected the ratio of sodium to potassium in order to minimize any negative impact these ions may have. Hence, in every 5 grams of MCP there is 0.09 grams of sodium and 0.6 grams of potassium. A little about sodium and potassium: These ions are carefully maintained in your body. Potassium is higher on the inside of cells while sodium is higher on the outside. This imbalance is one of the reasons we are able to be alive and functioning. In fact, our body uses between 25-50% of it's energy at rest maintaining these different concentrations. Excess sodium is linked to high levels of blood pressure while the same is not true of potassium. This is why we have chosen to use more potassium than sodium. In fact, the low sodium salt substitutes one can buy at the grocery store are made from potassium. We don't use calcium because this forms an insoluble complex with the modified citrus pectin. What does the body do with excess potassium? When the body takes in more potassium than it needs the extra is simply excreted in the urine. Balance is easily maintained. In fact, our ratio of potassium to sodium was selected to assist the body in maintaining the correct levels. One last word about potassium in the diet. Some speculate that many people are actually on potassium deficient diets! Since potassium is found in abundance only in plant foods (vegetables) some people may not be getting adequate amounts. So rest assured that using PectaSol as a preventative will not give you too much potassium. (Unless, of course, you have a health condition where potassium needs to be limited.)
Question Is PectaSol made of organic ingredients?
Answer PectaSol is produced from pectin which is not currently available in an organic form. The majority of citrus grown organically is being sold as whole fruit with very little peels available. Demand hasn't built enough to inspire someone to separate the organic peels from the conventional ones. Our analysis of pectins have shown consistently that they don't contain pesticides at a critical level. This is because in the production of pectin from citrus peels two steps result in the destruction and/or removal of any pesticide residues. The first step is the acidification of the peels. The acidificaion results in harmless products by hydrolyzing the phosphoric acid ester groups off of the pesticide molecule. The other step is the alcoholic precipitation of the pectin. In this step all lipophilic compounds (such as pesticides) would be removed and washed away. These two production steps should eliminate all pesticides and lead to a safe pectin from which PectaSol is then made.
Question Does PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin interfere with statins or any other prescription medications the way grapefruit juice can?
Answer Grapefruit juice is known to inhibit an enzyme system in the small intestines that metabolizes some drugs prior to absorption. The chemical compound in grapefruit that is believed to be responsible for the inhibition is 6'7'-dihydroxybergamottin. Modified citrus pectin is derived from citrus fruit, but contains only pectin. Pectin is not known to inhibit enzyme systems.
Question What is PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin?
Answer Pecta-Sol® Modified Citrus Pectin is a complex polysaccharide (long-chain carbohydrate) which is obtained from the peel and pulp of citrus fruits such as oranges and tangerines. It is val-ued for its galactosyl component, which was studied in the research of Dr. Kenneth J. Pienta, MD (J Natl Cancer Inst 1995 Mar 1;87(5):348-53). Dr. Pienta’s research highlighted the modified citrus pectin’s affinity for cell surface carbohydrate-binding galectin-3 molecules, which reside on the surface of aberrant cells.
Question What is pectin and how does PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin differ from ordinary pectin?
Answer Ordinary pectin is a complex carbohydrate molecule found in almost all plants. It is recognized for its ability to gel (as in the making of jams), but is not absorbed into the bloodstream because of its long molecular chain. For modified citrus pectin, a special manufacturing process creates a shorter molecular chain. According to the scientific research, that modification enhances absorption and utilization of the crucial polysaccharide compounds. Pecta-Sol® Modified Citrus Pectin is a trademarked version of modified citrus pectin which conforms to the published specifications used in scientific research.
Question How was the suggested use for PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin arrived at?
Answer In the published research on animal studies using Modified Citrus Pectin, the dosage was measured as a percentage of daily fluid intake. The research of Dr. Pienta found an ideal ratio at 1% of daily fluid intake. Thus, the suggested daily dose of Pecta-Sol™ Modified Citrus Pectin is 15 grams, or 1% of an average daily fluid intake of 1.5 liters (6 cups). This dosage was also used by Dr. Stephen Strum and Dr. Isaac Eliaz in their pilot clinical trial on modified citrus pectin and PSA doubling time.
Question How long can PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin be safely used?
Answer The scientific research on modified citrus pectin lists no adverse affects or toxicity. PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin matches the specifications used in scientific research studies. Consumption can continue for as long as desired.
Question Does PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin work on any specific health need?
Answer PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin is not a drug. It is provided as a dietary supplement only. For a better understanding of the potential health benefits of modified citrus pectin consult the published scientific literature. For specific questions, ask your doctor.
Question Do people experience adverse reactions to PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin?

Question How does PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin compare to other products which describe themselves as "Modified Citrus Pectin" or "Fractionated Citrus Pectin"?
Answer PectaSol® Modified Citrus Pectin is manufactured strictly according to the parameters of scientific research on modified citrus pectin. According to the specifications outlined in the Pienta research, the pectin should have a "methoxylation rate" of no more than 10%. Increased methoxylation potentially reduces the pectin binding sites which bind with the receptor sites of aberrant cells. Products that are sold as "modified citrus pectin" which exceed the 10% methoxylation rate given by the Pienta research team do not conform to the study specifications nor do they match the products used in the clinical research. Treated pectinic acid, sometimes referred to as "Fractionated Citrus Pectin", is manufactured under Patent #5,498,702 and was initially developed as an aspartame replacement. Its pH and methoxylation rates do not match the specifications established by the Pienta research team in their research on the role of modified citrus pectin and metastasis.
